Center for Curricular Co-Creation (CuCo)

The Centre for Curricular Co-Creation project aims to enhance the development of degree programmes more agile and participatory and is intended to serve as a central platform for innovation-oriented programme development.

As part of the project, which is funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education, several cross-faculty pilot projects are being implemented, including the introduction of an interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree programme in the humanities entitled ‘Humanities – Orientation for the World of Today and Tomorrow’, which opens up new paths in the teaching of the humanities and cultural studies. In addition, a flexible introductory phase for mathematics and natural science subjects is to be introduced. We also intend to systematically anchor future skills, including AI competencies, in curricular structures of the degree programmes.

Furthermore, the project addresses other key topics such as education for sustainable development, data literacy and AI integration in text-based and experimental subjects. 

The project is one of 119 projects nationwide that are funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education Teaching. The University of Freiburg will receive around 5.6 million euros for the first project phase, which will run from October 2025 until 2029. If the interim evaluation is positive, a further 2.5 million euros will be provided for the following two years.
